Colegio Bilingüe de Matehuala is a Christian, bilingual school, located in Matehuala, San Luís Potosí, México. When missionaries Robert and Gail May moved to Matehuala from the state of Alabama, U.S.A., they were already teaching their own children at home. After starting a church in Matehuala in 1991, they saw the need to offer Christian education to the Christian community, especially the members of their own congregation. CBM (Colegio Bilingüe de Matehuala) started with first through fourth grades in 1993, and gradually grew to include K-12. The size of the student body usually ranges between 40 and 50 students, grades K-12, including some homeschoolers. Since 1996, students age 13 and above have competed at the A.C.E. National Student Convention, and from time to time some have gone on to compete at the International Student Convention. We have had numerous graduates over the years who have demonstrated the value of a strong, Christian foundation in their life. Scholarship Program From time to time people have asked us what they can do—what kinds of projects we have going on in Mexico that they can help out with—permanent, ongoing projects that require outside funding. The only thing we are doing at this point that fits into that category is Christian education. Our Christian school offers a solid, Bible-based, K-12 education at the very lowest possible cost for the Mexican families. For the 2007-08 school year, we had thirty-seven on-campus students, and six homeschool students. Of those thirty-seven on-campus students, five received a full tuition scholarship provided by the school. However, there are other families who truly desire a Christian education for their children, but they literally cannot afford it. You could bless a Christian Mexican family by providing a tuition scholarship for a child for $100 U.S. a month for a year, September - August. Please note that, except in very extreme cases of financial need, we require the family to pay the enrollment fee and the cost of materials for their child. The scholarship only covers the monthly tuition. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact us and we'll get it set up. If possible, plan a trip to Matehuala while school is in session to see first-hand what God is doing through the Christian school ministry.
Thank you, and God bless you. Robert and Gail May Telephone: (361) 355-4330 Christian Education is not the best option for your children... It's the only option! In God's eyes, the responsibility of teaching and training children lies solely with the child's parents. It has never been the responsibility of any government to provide, much less require, a certain educational program for all its citizens. Today more than ever before, the "education" that the government of any country we know of offers its citizenry is not fit for God's citizens. Thus, the ONLY OPTION for Christian families is Christian education. The very best option is homeschooling. Gail and I (mainly Gail) have been homeschooling our own children for more than 22 years. These days there is a world of material and support available to homeschool families in English-speaking nations. I imagine most states in the United States have a support group similar to the Texas Homeschool Coalition in Texas. You can investigate via the Internet to find a support group in your country, state, province, or region. If for some reason homeschooling is not an option for your family, many churches now offer a Christian school program similar to our Christian school here in Matehuala. If there is not a Christian school in your area, talk to your pastor about starting one in your church. If you are a pastor and don't offer Christian education to your congregation, please email me, and I'll be glad to put you in touch with someone who can help you get started. If you are interested in exploring the curriculum we use, Accelerated Christian Education, visit their website. Also, if you would like to visit us here in Matehuala and see first-hand the Christian educational program we offer, we would love to have you. We are located about eight hours south of McAllen, Texas, six hours north of Mexico City.
Sincerely, Robert May Principal, Colegio Bilingüe de Matehuala
